HEROES OF MIDLOTHIAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 2018 - COMPLETED

  • HEROES OF MIDLOTHIAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 2018 - DEADLINE - APRIL 6, 2018 - COMPLETED

    Heroes of Midlothian Foundation awards educational scholarships to help offset the cost of completing higher education and training, including at universities, colleges, academies, vocational schools, and certification programs. The memorial scholarships honor the legacy of local heroes by helping enrich and educate the next generation of Midlothian-area heroes.

    Any student graduating from a Midlothian I.S.D. high school may apply. The scholarships are merit-based and awarded by considering an applicant’s academic background, community involvement, future plans, and critical thinking abilities.

    Two scholarships may be awarded. $1000 annually, up to $4,000 over four years, per scholarship. Each scholarship’s $1,000 is disbursed in equal payments in early August and January for the award year.

FOR MADDIE'S SAKE SCHOLARSHIP - DUE: APRIL 30, 2018

  • For Maddie's Sake Scholarship for SPED Teaching/Healthcare Careers

    TYPE—$1000 Scholarship

    ​PURPOSE—To provide financial assistance to a MISD high school graduate who will attend a college/university to prepare for a career in special education or therapy/healthcare profession to assist people with disabilities. Below are some examples of special education careers; this is not a complete list: 
    • teachers specialized in special education, adapted physical education, paraprofessional, diagnostician
    • therapist specialized in speech/language, occupation, physical, art, music
    • developmental disabilities nurse, educational audiologist/interpreter, prosthetist/orthotist

    ​CRITERIA—A Midlothian, Texas ISD high school graduate from 2016, 2017 or 2018 planning to study special education healthcare or teaching in an accredited program. 

    DEADLINE—Applications must be submitted online no later than April 30, 2018. 

    SELECTION PROCESS—The For Maddie's Sake board will make a selection by May 11, 2017. The selected scholarship recipient and parent will be notified by phone and/or email and will receive a check from For Maddie's Sake by June 1, 2018.

4 COACH RICKY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 13, 2018 - COMPLETED

    There will be 4  - $1,000 scholarships awarded to 2 baseball, 1 softball, and 1 wrestling in memorial to Coach Ricky. These scholarships are being awarded to MHS graduates whose  life has been influenced by a coach.

    Criteria:

    • Must be a Midlothian High School graduating senior
    • Must attend college in the fall, following their senior year in high school
    • Must have at least a current 3.0 GPA
    • Must have participated in softball, baseball, or wrestling all four years of high school
    • Must have attended Midlothian High School all four years of high school
    • Must demonstrate community involvement with youth and/or youth sports
    • Must submit a typed essay describing a time you were greatly influenced by a coach

     

    There will be four scholarships awarded in the amount of $1,000 each:

    • Two scholarships for baseball athletes
    • One scholarship for a softball athlete
    • One scholarship for a wrestling athlete

ROBERT K. MASSEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP-DUE: APRIL 5, 2018 - COMPLETED

  • The class of 1974 left a lasting memorial to their friend and classmate, Bob Massey, by establishing a scholarship in his memory.  The scholarship is to be presented to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the outstanding characteristics and fine qualities that they as a class loved and respected in Bob.  They find it hard to describe the feelings they hold in their memories of Bob and even harder to name the qualities that endeared him to them. Such attributes of leadership, loyalty, service, dependability, and cooperation are just a few examples of the characteristics of his whole personality.  They wish to thank God for the time they had with Bob Massey and pray this scholarship will be a lasting remembrance of him.

    Qualification
    To be eligible to apply for these scholarships, a candidate must meet all of the following criteria.
    ANY OMISSION OF ANY PART OF THE REQUIRED CRITERIA WILL CAUSE THE
    APPLICATION TO BE REJECTED.

    1. FFA membership requirement: The candidate must be a member of the Midlothian or
    Heritage FFA chapters & must be a senior at Midlothian or Heritage High School. Friends of
    Midlothian FFA activities should be listed and care should be taken to be truthful on all listings.
    ANY FALSIFICATION WILL CAUSE DISQUALIFICATION.
    2. Application: The candidate must submit a properly completed application with an official high
    school transcript and a (1) one page typed descriptive narrative of why he or she should be
    chosen for this scholarship.
    3. The winner of the scholarship must use the money by the 2nd fall semester following their
    graduation from High School or money will be forfeited & returned into the scholarship fund.
    4. A scholarship check will be issued to recipient after the recipient has proof of enrollment to a 2
    or 4-year college, or trade or technical school. Half of the monies will be paid on enrollment
    with the remainder paid upon course completion.

    Scholarship for Excellence Fund

    HILCO created the Scholarship for Excellence Fund to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of HILCO members and their families.

    Eligibility - Applicant must be

    • A resident of the state of Texas.
    • Considered a dependent, living at the residence of their parents or legal guardians who are active member-consumers of HILCO Electric. They must be receiving electric service from the cooperative at their permanent address.
    • A graduating high school senior.

    If you are selected to receive the scholarship, you must:

    • Enroll in the first fall semester after receipt of the scholarship.
    • Meet entrance requirements of the school to which you apply.

    Judging Criteria

    • Applicants will be judged on the following:
    • Financial need.
    • Academic excellence.
    • Involvement in extracurricular activities.
    • Support of community and family life goals.
    • Content of essay.

    This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior of Midlothian High School.  Its purpose is to help the individual offset the rising cost of higher education.

    The East Texas Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan on majoring in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering at an accredited four year university.  Freshmen receive $500 per semester, upper classmen receive $1,000 per semester for a total of $7,000 given over 4 years.  To remain eligible a student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and 30 hours of course work per year.

    Scholarship for Excellence Application Requirements


    HBC (Higginbotham Bros. & Co.) created the Scholarship for Excellence award program to encourage and assist in the educational pursuits of our community’s graduating seniors.

    Permissible uses of funds:
     Payment of tuition and fees required for enrollment, books, supplies and/or equipment required for courses of instruction at an accredited four-year university, junior college or TEA-approved trade schools that offer an associate degree.

    Criteria for applying:

    Must be a graduating senior from the Class of 2018.

     Must have maintained a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.  High school counselors must verify and certify the accuracy of the stated GPS by signature and date.  (Home school students must provide a copy of transcript from high school level course work.)

     

    Must meet the federal entrance requirements at an accredited four-year university, junior college or TEA approved trade school to which you apply.

     Must be enrolled as a full-time student (12-hour minimum).

     Total scholarship awarded will be $1,000.  HBC will pay $500 for the fall semester upon receipt of voucher, invoices or official letter providing proof of enrollment.  The first installment will be made payable to the school’s financial aid or business office.

    Recipient is required to submit proof of spring enrollment and sustained 2.00 GPA from fall semester to qualify for the remaining $500.  Final installment will also be made payable to the school’s financial aid or business office.

    NOTE: If recipient’s cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 or if the recipient fails to register as a full-time student for the spring semester, recipient will be placed on probation for one semester.  If probationary issues are not corrected within the following semester, the remaining scholarship funds allotted to that student ($500) will be revoked.  If the recipient fails to enroll or register for any course work during the spring semester, then the remaining scholarship funds allotted to that student ($500) will be revoked.

    Other Important Information:

    • Applications will be submitted to the selection committee to be graded on the criteria mentioned above.
    • Applications will be accepted no later than 5:00 PM on April 1, 2018.

    Holcim is committed to promoting education and supporting the students of the Midlothian Independent School District.  Holcim will offer a $1,000 scholarship for at least 2 graduating seniors from Midlothian High School and/or Heritage High School.

Singleton Scholarship application is now available.  High school seniors are invited to apply by completing the electronic application via the website, http://www.singletonscholarship.org/ApplyNow.aspx.  I strongly advise the students to review the Home page for any information or questions they may have.

    Students selected will be awarded an $8,000 scholarship divided into $1,000 per semester for four years.  There is also a Merit award that is a one-time gift of $1,000.00.

     

    In addition to the application, each student must submit via the website the following documents:

     

    *         Copy of High School Transcript (does not have to be official, copies are accepted).

    *         Copy of the first two pages of parent's/guardian's most recent Tax Return. (This is a must as one of the criteria's of the scholarship is financial need)

    *         Current Photo.

    *         Essay (less than 500 words, explain why you should become a recipient).

    *         Two letters of recommendation from a principal, superintendent, counselor, teacher, or pastor/priest.

     

    The deadline to submit the completed application with all the required documents is Friday April 6, 2018 at midnight.

    Eligibility Requirements

    1. Applicant must be a Midlothian High School Graduating Senior.
    2. Applicant must have been on the football roster for Midlothian High School their Senior year.
    3. Applicant must be in good standing with Midlothian High School and the Football program.
    4. Applicant must be entering college or a technical school in the year of graduation.

     

    Documentation Required – the following must be submitted

    1. Application – Computer generated or handwritten. Handwritten applications MUST BE LEGIBLE AND NEAT. Proper sentence structure and spelling is required. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
    2. A typewritten personal statement – No more than 250 words detailing why you should be awarded the scholarship. The statement should include any relevant information such as: scholastic achievement, commitment to the community, educational and career goals, family background and any other pertinent information.

TRISTEN FORT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - DUE: APRIL 25, 2018 COMPLETED

    Tristen was born on October 17, 1996 to parents Kraig and Alisa Fort. Tristen was a student athlete participating in Volleyball and Basketball at FSMS, and was a member of the Freshman Volleyball and Basketball teams at MHS.  She was also a member of NJHS and MyIn10tion at FSMS. While attending FSMS, Tristen exhibited the traits of a Cub which are Respect, Character and Perseverance.  As a member of NJHS Tristen helped to plan and implement the FSMS Powderpuff event which was used as a fundraising tool to benefit a local charity that would then serve to fill the needs of the Midlothian community.  

    Tristen passed away suddenly in an accident her freshman year and she is remembered for her warm dimpled smile, her kind and caring spirit, and her friendship that she so generously gave to many. Tristen touched the lives of many FSMS students and staff and this scholarship is meant to honor her memory by assisting a former FSMS student’s aspiration of attending a college or trade school.

    This scholarship is a one-time award to be used by the recipient for college or trade school expenses.

    Criteria:

    Must have attended FSMS their entire 8th grade year.

    Must have been a member of FSMS NJHS and completed their membership requirements.

    Must attend college or a trade school in the fall following their senior year in high school.

     

    Application Process:

    To be considered, you must complete all sections of the application. You must follow the directions for the essay section of the application.  You must attach a cover page to your completed application with your name.  Completed application packets are due to the MHS College/Career center by 4:00 on or before Wed,  April 25, 2018..

GEORGE RAFFIELD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - DUE: 4/27/18

  • The purpose of the George Raffield Memorial Scholarship is to honor the work that Officer Raffield did while a member of The Midlothian Police Department and as an undercover officer at MHS. To further his legacy and to honor the ultimate sacrifice that Officer Raffield made.

    CRITERIA FOR SELECTION             DUE:  APRIL 27, 2018 TO COLEGE/CAREER CENTER . - COMPLETED

    The recipient must be a current Midlothian High School student in good standing, and possess the following characteristics:

    1. Character and Leadership 0-10 points
    2. Academic Ability 0- 5  points
    3. Essay Consideration 0- 5  points
    4. Community and School Contributions 0- 5  points

    (Extracurricular activities, honors, etc.)

    Scholarships are awarded with the stipulation that the recipient will enroll in a Junior or 4 year College or Trade School, and complete a full academic load during the period for which the scholarship is awarded.

MIDLOTHIAN LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - DUE: 4/27/2018

  •  The Midlothian Lions Club is a local service organization active in our community. We raise funds to help supply eyeglasses for disadvantaged school children and others, help provide financial support for many local causes and projects, and serve our local community. We are a part of the Lions Clubs International, a worldwide organization whose mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.

     

    The Midlothian Lions Club is pleased to announce that we are offering a $750 scholarship to a 2018 graduating Senior. Below are the requirements for scholarship eligibility and attached is our application form. -Senior graduating in Midlothian ISD. -GPA of at least 3.0 or graduating in the top 25%. -List/description of community service including school, church, or personal hours. -Brief description of your future plans for community service.

     

    -Application must be submitted to COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER no later than April 27, 2018. -If selected, we will need a letter of acceptance and proof of registration, as well as address information for the school to which funds should be sent.
