Dear MISD Families:
As you may know, we continue to expect inclement weather during this weekend and early next week. Our administrative team, in partnership with the National Weather Service and the City of Midlothian, is monitoring the forecasts throughout each day and will do so for the coming days ahead. With weekend campus events and activities, please stay tuned to your email inbox and district social media. Additionally, we will provide a weather update regarding school no later than mid-day Sunday.
With these weather forecasts, we want to be as proactive as possible to share with you that we have asked that all students bring their devices home today, charge them during the weekend and be ready for Monday. The Texas Education Agency released late yesterday afternoon updated requirements allowing school districts to file waivers and offer remote learning instead of canceling school due to weather conditions. With this update, we will move to remote learning if we are unable to open our campuses due to weather. In the event we have widespread power outages, we will adjust accordingly. Please watch for additional information from your campus principal regarding remote learning student expectations.
Our teachers and staff are preparing to post assignments and resources for each day we are unable to open our buildings due to weather and road conditions. These days will be asynchronous in an effort to help our families work on school work at a time that best suits their schedules. If you or your student experiences any technical difficulty, our MISD virtual help desk will be available at 469-300-4849 from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
In addition, our monthly Board of Trustees meeting that would be held on Monday, February 15 has been moved to Monday, February 22 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The February 22nd agenda will contain the scheduled public hearings: Texas Academic Performance Report hearing and Staff Supplemental Pay hearing. The agenda for the regular board meeting will be posted Friday, February 19th, on www.MISD.gs. The Board will have a virtual only special meeting on Wednesday, February 17 with the superintendent search firm to begin discussing the superintendent search posting criteria beginning at 5:30 p.m. Both of the open meeting portions of these meetings will be streamed live from www.MISD.gs.
As you may know, Texas weather can be unpredictable and we are working as diligently as possible to ensure our students, staff and families are safe as we serve 112 miles. We are family and there is no greater purpose than ensuring everyone is safe as possible.
