Midlothian ISD’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved Kara Wendel as the principal of Elementary #8 and Khourie Jones as the principal of J.R. Irvin Elementary. Currently, Wendel serves as the assistant principal at LaRue Miller Elementary, and Jones serves as the principal of RF Patterson Elementary School in Kennedale ISD.
“We are excited for the future of elementary education in MISD,” Dr. Courtney Carpenter, Interim Superintendent of Schools, said. “We welcome Ms. Jones to our MISD family and look forward to her leadership at Irvin Elementary. We believe she will build strong bonds with her students, teachers and parents and inspire excellence in our Irvin community. We are also excited for our own Ms. Wendel to lead Elementary #8 and create and foster an environment for everyone to reach their unlimited potential.”
Khourie Jones has worked in public education for more than 20 years, beginning her career as a teacher in Dallas ISD and Irving ISD. She later served as a special education teacher for Grand Prairie ISD and Mansfield ISD. Jones was an assistant principal at James F. Delaney Elementary in Kennedale ISD from 2013 - 2018, and she currently serves as the principal at KISD. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Oklahoma and her Master of Special Education from Texas Christian University. She is currently working on her Doctor of Education from Texas Christian University.

Kara Wendel has more than 20 years of experience in public education. She began her career as a teacher in Mesquite ISD, Denton ISD and Lewisville ISD. She later served as an assistant principal at Charles Evans Elementary in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Wendel joined MISD in 2015 as an assistant principal at Midlothian High School. She became the assistant principal of LaRue Miller Elementary in 2016, where she currently serves. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University Stillwater, and she earned her Master of Education Administration from Texas Woman’s University.
