Due to increasing student enrollment in the Midlothian Independent School District, the Board of Trustees commissioned a community committee to propose school boundaries for the entire district to go into effect for the 2022-23 school year when Elementary #8 opens, as well as the expansion at Heritage High School. Elementary #8 is located on the corner of Hawkins Run and 14th Street. Additionally, the Board and district leadership requested the committee to review boundaries in a holistic manner to include middle schools as a possibility with Walnut Grove Middle School nearing at or above capacity while Frank Seale and Dieterich Middle Schools have ample room to serve more students. Elementary #8 and the Heritage High School expansion was funded by the 2016 Bond.
“The work of this committee is incredibly important,” Dr. Courtney Carpenter, Interim Superintendent, said. “This committee has been working for months reviewing the latest demographic information, as well as determining how modified boundaries provide students additional opportunities to be a part of their school community.”
During the Monday, Feb. 22 Board of Trustees meeting, the community committee provided an update and boundary recommendations prior to seeking community input. The dates for input are listed below.
Wednesday, March 3 - Virtual Thought Exchange at 12:15 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Thursday, March 4 - In-person Input from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Midlothian High School library and 5-7 p.m. at the L.A. Mills Administration Building. To make your reservation, click here.
After the community has provided input, the committee will review the comments and make any modifications to the boundaries as necessary. The committee plans to provide a Board update and possible modified boundaries at the March or April Board meeting.
