Midlothian Independent School District

Character Education

We value our students in the MISD family, addressing the whole child, which includes more than just the basic required subjects taught in the classroom. As we prepare our students to achieve excellence, we

  • Embed Character Education in our curriculum for our students, including parents and community members as appropriate and possible;
  • Offer opportunities for Service Learning; and
  • Provide activities that support social-emotional learning

On our MISD elementary campuses, we use the Character Counts! program, which teaches students six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. These character traits are ingrained in our campus culture and reinforced in all we do, starting in the classroom and continuing to other school activities.

We provide our secondary students a variety of opportunities that emphasize kindness, respect for others and empathy, including The Great Kindness Challenge, Friends of Rachel's Club, Start with Hello week, and National Mix It Up Lunch. Our mottos on each of our campuses reinforce our Midlothian Strong school culture to help build students of character.
