FAFSA Opens October 1, 2021! As you may be aware, there is a new graduation requirement per Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, which states all senior students must do one of the following in order to graduate:
- Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
- Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or
- Submit a signed opt-out form.
Opportunities For FAFSA Completion Assistance
We understand completing the FAFSA can be complex, and we have partnered with our local universities to help our families navigate the process. All of the workshops below are available to our students, regardless of which campus they attend. Spanish translation is available at the workshops as well.

October 20, 2021, with Tarleton University at 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria
Midlothian High School
October 14, 2021, with the University of Texas at Arlington at 6:00 p.m. in PD Room 158. Enter through door 37 by the auditorium.
November 9, 2021, with Tarleton at 6:00 p.m. in PD Room 158. Enter through door 37 by the auditorium.
November 10, 2021, with UTA at 10:00 a.m. in PD Room 158. Enter through door 37 by the auditorium.
November 10, 2021, with UTA at 1:00 p.m. in PD Room 158. Enter through door 37 by the auditorium.
When completing the FAFSA or attending the workshops, please bring the following documents.
Create FSA ID for Parent and Student (know username and password) - Creating FSA tips
Social Security number for student
Social Security numbers for parent(s) if you are a dependent student
Driver’s license number for student and parent(s)
2020 Federal tax information or tax returns including IRS W-2 information, for you and for your parents if you are a dependent student:
2020 IRS 1040
Foreign tax return, IRS 1040NR, or IRS 1040NR-EZ
Records of your untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans noneducation benefits, for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student
Information on cash; savings and checking account balances; investments, including stocks and bonds and real estate (but not including the home in which you live); and business and farm assets for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student
A list of colleges and universities you intend on applying to

Information to Opt-Out
A student may opt out of the financial aid application graduation requirement if:
a parent or guardian submits a signed form;
the student is 18 years of age or older and submits a signed form; or
a school counselor authorizes the student to decline to complete and submit the application for good cause.
