Proposed Middle School Boundaries

Dear MISD Parents:

Over the last several weeks, community members representing all areas of our district have been hard at work developing a proposal for new middle school boundaries as the district prepares to open Dieterich Middle School in fall 2020. This Zoning Committee has surveyed the 112-square miles that encompass our district, studied enrollment projections and student populations as well as worked to understand systems such as transportation and special programs that impact boundaries. With these parameters in mind, the committee presented their recommendation to the Board of Trustees this evening. The proposed map can be found HERE. To learn more about the committee and zoning process, watch this short video HERE or visit our website at

As part of the zoning process, our community committee is asking for input and wants to hear from you. Join us for a come and go community meeting at any of the below times to speak with our Zoning Committee. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the proposed middle school boundaries, ask questions and share your thoughts.

L.A. Mills Administration Building - 100 Walter Stephenson Rd.

  • Monday, October 28, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 29, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 29, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

If you are unable to make these community meetings you can still have a voice by emailing by Friday, November 1. The committee will take all feedback into consideration before presenting their final recommendation to the School Board on Monday, November 18.

In an effort to minimize transitions for students who will be in eighth grade for the 2020-2021 school year, MISD offers these future 8th-graders an opportunity to remain at their current campus. Additionally, the younger siblings of these 8th-graders may also stay at their current campus for one year. Further communication will be sent to the impacted neighborhoods once the Board of Trustees approves the new middle school boundaries in December.

We know this may be a challenging time for our families, and we thank you in advance for your partnership and understanding as we continue to provide the best education to all of our students.
