What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with students and staff! Each day brings new and different challenges. I love to teach the importance of character. Our students use our 6 Pillars as a springboard to learn how to treat each other. I really want them to know that character counts ALL THE TIME. I also really enjoy working with my staff as we navigate and problem-solve how to help students succeed socially or academically.
What was your favorite subject in school and why? My favorite subject in school was English! I spend a lot of my free time reading. My love for reading came from a long line of English teachers who taught me the value of a good book. I like historical fiction the best, but I also love great mysteries. Complicated characters with many plot twists are my favorite!
What's a fun fact about you? I love to travel! I have many "bucket list" places that I would like to visit. There are so many places in the U.S. that are culturally rich and geographically interesting. I am slowly working on visiting cities that are on my bucket list.
What is something parents can to do ensure their child is successful in school? I think the best thing that a parent can do to ensure that their child is successful in school is to balance expectations and outcomes. Often I see students struggling to attempt something difficult or unfamiliar because they are afraid that they will fail. Parents sometimes place so much value on the outcome they disregard the importance of the process. We want students to be confident to try new things and show grit, even if it means they do not achieve their goal at first!
