Tim Hicks Named MISD Director of Safety and Security

Midlothian ISD and the Midlothian City Council has named Tim Hicks as the Director of Safety and Security as part of a joint partnership between the Midlothian Police Department and MISD. Currently, Hicks serves in the Midlothian Police Department as the commander of the traffic and patrol divisions as well as assistant commander for the Southern Regional Response Group.

“The safety and security of our students and staff are our top priorities in MISD,” Dr. Lane Ledbetter, superintendent of schools, said. “We welcome Mr. Hicks to our MISD family, and we are excited about this new level of partnership with our police department.”

MISD and Midlothian PD have entered an agreement to share the financial responsibility of the SRO and security program. This partnership improves both organizations’ ability to serve and protect the students and staff of MISD.

“Our goal is to be as proactive as possible so we can best serve everyone in Midlothian and MISD,” Chief of Police Carl Smith said. “Working so closely with the school district benefits our entire community, and we are confident in Commander Hicks’ ability to lead this program.”

As the director of safety and security, Hicks will revise and implement the campus and district crisis response plans, conduct staff development related to student safety and oversee the student resource officers.

“I am excited to join the MISD family and form relationships with the students and staff,” Hicks said. “I have been serving our community for the past eight years, and I look forward to keeping MISD on the cutting edge of safety and security.”

Hicks earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Liberty University and has worked for the Midlothian Police Department since 2011. He currently serves as patrol and traffic division commander for MPD, as well as assistant commander Southern Regional Response Group where he recruits and trains SWAT team members.
